Chicago Sun-Times - Get a root canal -- or your roots dyed: Dentist offers spa, yoga,

Richton Park's That Certain Smile might get even the staunchest dental-phobe to break out in a grin.

In addition to dental services, the office offers a full salon and day spa, complete with hairstylists, an aesthetician, a nail technician and a massage therapist.

But a pedicure, manicure and an eyebrow wax aren't the only ways to ease a painful root canal.

That Certain Smile has a plastic surgeon, life coach, personal trainer, yoga coach, nutritionist and financial analyst available every Friday for consultation services that start at around $100.

"It's a full-service practice. We pride ourselves on being an extreme makeover center for the suburbs," said owner Tina Champion- Harris, the dentist who opened the doors to the "one-stop shop" Sept. 17. "It's basically a Michigan Avenue salon in the south suburbs. Each stylist is well-versed in natural hair care and colors. It's a nice atmosphere to work in."

Harris, a mother of five, got the idea for the multi-operational business from her own harried lifestyle. Prices for all services, including the consultation, are competitive with area businesses. Plastic surgery and other follow-ups are done out of the building, she said.

ROUTINE CLEANINGS, TOO

A service almost never associated with dental care -- photography -- is also made available at the office, 3677 Sauk Trail.

"We have a great photographer," Harris said. "He comes by appointment only or he goes to clients' houses."

That Certain Smile also offers day care for up to two hours.

Of course, those who just want to get a routine cleaning or cosmetic dentistry are also welcome.

"We specialize in smile rejuvenation, whitening, veneers and metal-free partials," Harris said. "We're really aggressive with preventative care and periodontal or gum health."

While this is her first time running a large dental office, Harris said she's over the initial hump and hopes to eventually open nine more businesses around Richton Park.

"It can be somewhat challenging, but I think the most challenging part was just getting it organized. Now it's to the point where it just runs itself," Harris said. "Everyone that I have is very professional and they've been doing it for a while."

With business picking up through word-of-mouth and previous clients, Harris is glad she ventured beyond the normal dental office.

"I love to see people smile. If you think about it, it's about what gives you that certain smile -- mind, body and soul," Harris said.
